Polyphony -
directed by Michael Fields, is a Wadhurst choir, formed in 1990 with
the aim of performing a wide repertoire of choral music, ' from Bach to Beatles'
. We meet every Friday evening during term-time,
from 20:00 until 22:00, usually in a private home.
The group consists of 20-30 singers, who perform at least twice a year in Wadhurst Church - in the summer and at Christmas time - often with professional guest soloists and accompanied either by keyboard, strings or orchestra. We have recorded 5 live CDs. In addition, we have, for several years, hosted a very genial supper party, in a private home, where members of the choir perform both by singing and the spoken word. We have also performed at numerous other functions, on request.
Recent highlights included giving the world premiere in 2007 of Michael Fields' "Midsummer Mass" for choir, soloists and orchestra, and celebrating our 20th anniversary with a 400th anniversary performance of Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610. We frequently showcase new works written by members of the group who also happen to be experienced composers.
