CANDIDATES' STATEMENTS

RICHARD GAINEY

Gainey

I am a member of the church, a regular commuter and father of 3 children at the local primary school.  I feel honoured to live in Wadhurst and am so grateful that my children are growing up in our beautiful and thriving village.  I sincerely believe Wadhurst is a fantastic place to live but I have concerns that there are pressures to implement changes to the village, some of which will change our community to the detriment of us all.

No community can stand still so it is not my intention to block all change.  However, some changes are pressed upon us due to party politics, rather than taking into account our village resident's views.  I have no political allegiances and promise to listen to the views of the whole village and will not vote for or against any issue on purely my individual circumstances.  In order to fulfill this promise I will encourage ideas and feedback from all of the community living in Wadhurst, which will mean all items proposed are representative of the whole parish; vital when debating local issues and concerns.

My motivation for standing for election to the Parish Council is to ensure that we protect both the amenities and services that make Wadhurst a successful village and the rural environment that makes Wadhurst so beautiful.

If elected to represent you I will:

  • Oppose unnecessary housing development, especially on the primary and secondary schools sites.
  • Resist the introduction of a major supermarket, which would see local business suffer or disappear entirely.
  • Lobby against any proposed changes to the train line, which would impact adversely on Wadhurst, and aim to keep the local bus service running.
  • Take a fresh look at the parking issues within the village.
  • Consider future village events to be run during the year in addition to the Scarecrow festival.
You will have seen I am part of an enthusiastic and passionate group of people which appear on a campaign leaflet that is being distributed with the slogan "Caring for Wadhurst and its residents".  Nevertheless, we are individuals from diverse backgrounds with differing views, but importantly each one of us has a common desire to "care for Wadhurst and its residents".
