No Pain - No Gain
What can we do to show our appreciation for the Awards for All Lottery Grant and the craftsman's work of Nutwood Flooring? Shout about it in N & V. A year ago we applied for the Lottery Grant which came through in April 2007. An outside down-pipe had been leaking under the Hall Floor and caused it to subside. Ronnie had the job of excavating the area and concreting it over during the summer holidays and then it took five months to dry enough to re-lay the parquet blocks. We apologise to all our customers who had to put up with half a floor for their events and go elsewhere for the last few weeks. We were grateful to the Montessori nursery for letting us use their space.
The old blocks took some hard work to clean and then they were all replaced like a jig-saw puzzle. The whole floor was then sanded at least four times until all the old stains were removed. This was followed by four coats of lacquer. The finished floor is amazing, the colours of the light oak grain shine with a new brilliance. We can thoroughly recommend Nutwood Flooring, so much so that we have booked them to do the same for the Village Club Lounge floor.
Now that we have completed the Hall Floor project we are entitled to a Lottery Award Plaque which we will put on the wall in the entrance lobby. When the village residents come to our Parish Assembly due to take place on 22nd April, we will have an unveiling ceremony. We are pleased that we have achieved this latest restoration work on the Village Hall. Tom Semple is a great inspiration and nothing seems to be too daunting a task. While the Bell Hotel languishes, the Village Community Centre goes from strength to strength providing an attractive and affordable venue for social gatherings and parties for everyone.
